Holiday RV Travel on the Texas Gulf Coast: Why Bay City Wins
Skip the crowded holiday campgrounds. Bay City Holiday RV Park offers warm weather, full hookups, and a peaceful Gulf Coast escape all season long.
The holidays are coming, and if you're an RV traveler, that means one thing: it's time to head south. While the rest of the country bundles up, the Texas Gulf Coast stays mild, green, and wide open — and Bay City Holiday RV Park is right in the middle of it.
Whether you're a snowbird escaping a northern winter or a Texas local looking for a peaceful holiday getaway, Bay City offers something the big resort parks can't: a genuine, affordable, no-fuss Gulf Coast experience.
Why the Texas Gulf Coast for the Holidays?
Texas Gulf Coast winters are mild by almost any standard. Bay City averages highs in the mid-60s°F through November and December, with lows rarely dipping below 45°F. That's t-shirt weather compared to most of the country.
You get:
- Sunshine: More sunny days than cloudy ones, even in December
- Fishing: The bay and surf fishing stays productive well into winter
- Birding: Peak migration season runs through November, and wintering birds arrive in force
- Uncrowded beaches: Matagorda Beach in November is a completely different experience than July — wide open, peaceful, and stunning
- Lower prices: Off-peak rates mean your dollar goes further
What Makes Bay City a Great Holiday Base
Bay City sits at the heart of Matagorda County, about 25 miles from the Gulf Coast shoreline. It's a real Texas town — not a tourist trap — with grocery stores, hardware stores, restaurants, and everything you need to resupply and relax.
Our park is clean, quiet, and well-maintained. Gordon, our maintenance manager, keeps everything in top shape year-round. Guests consistently mention how peaceful the park feels, even when it's full.
Full Hookups All Season
We offer full hookups — water, sewer, and electric — on every site. No dry camping, no dump station lines, no compromises. Daily and weekly rates include electricity; monthly guests pay electricity separately, which keeps long-term costs predictable.
Concrete Pads and Paved Roads
Holiday travel often means rain. Our concrete pads and paved internal roads mean you're never stuck in mud, and your rig stays level and stable no matter what the weather does.
Free WiFi
Staying connected over the holidays matters. Our free WiFi keeps you in touch with family, lets you stream holiday movies, and handles video calls without the data charges.
Holiday Activities Around Bay City
Thanksgiving on the Gulf
There's something special about spending Thanksgiving near the water. Bay City has several local restaurants that serve holiday meals, and the Matagorda Bay area offers incredible fishing and birding right through the holiday weekend.
Christmas Bird Count
The National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count takes place each December, and the Matagorda County area is one of the most productive count circles in Texas. Birders from across the state come to participate. It's a great way to connect with the local birding community and see some incredible species.
New Year's on the Coast
Ring in the new year with a Gulf Coast sunset instead of a crowded city party. The beaches near Matagorda are quiet and beautiful in late December, and there's something deeply satisfying about watching fireworks over the water.
Holiday Shopping in Bay City
Bay City has a charming downtown with local shops and restaurants. The holiday season brings seasonal events and a small-town warmth that's hard to find in bigger cities.
Planning Your Holiday Stay

The holidays are our busiest season. Snowbirds start arriving in October and November, and sites fill up quickly. If you're planning a Thanksgiving or Christmas stay, call us at 979-245-1803 as early as possible.
How Long Should You Stay?
Many of our holiday guests arrive in November and stay through January or February. The monthly rate of $425 (plus electricity) makes an extended stay very affordable — often less than a single week at a resort park.
If you're just passing through, our daily rate of $50/night gives you a comfortable stop with full amenities.
